by Sebastian Deans FwSS What comes to Mind when I say the word ‘Heart’? ... Heart … Do you see the organ in our chest with its constant beat that changes appropriately to our conditions and feelings? Or perhaps the Blood that is ceaselessly circulating around the body, filling all our veins and arteries, filling every part of us? Maybe there is more of the metaphorical Heart? The centre of our feelings, where we can know the joys of simply being alive, “lifting the spirits”, or the suffering of knowing too much sensitivity to life’s harsher sides, “utter heartache”. Maybe the centre of our lives in general, who we are; from our everyday personality to the basis of consciousness itself and the heights of Spiritual interconnection with all that is. Maybe you just see colours – Reds, pinks and oranges? And sounds – what about laughter? Especially the laughter of children and childlike happiness. Maybe sounds that calm the Heart – choir song, a ceremonial bell, gentle humming? I usually have associations with, and the feelings of, various kinds of Love come to Mind. Romance and heartfelt connections with people; things I love to experience like Shiatsu (of course), dancing, standing still in nature and a nice dark chocolate (again, of course); the deeper lines of Love that seem to connect people beyond regular time and space; as well as feeling a ‘Big Love’ – a bit like the very guidance of the Universe’s Life unfolding and infinite ways of being ever changing and all allowing. In the Far East it is all of these things and more. It is the main part of us that aligns with Summer and so the brightening up and coming together of people, community spirit and social interactions. In terms of our health, obviously if there is an imbalance in much of what has been mentioned then it indicates the Heart is involved in some way, especially if there are any palpitations or irregularities with the heartbeat. The Heart also has a focus on how appropriately we respond to situations – e.g.: nervously laughing when it would seem not fitting to. This does not mean having a Heart condition or disease just an imbalance in the energy of the Heart, this can be addressed fairly simply. Look again at some of what is above to see what can be rearranged if you are in need in your Heart. Do you need to open up and get things moving like when singing or laughing and being sociable, or is it something more like meditation and personal reflection, taking some time for yourself and maybe being still in nature (or a nice quiet bath). Of course, booking a Shiatsu session can always help and we know a few people who can help you there. So, as the Heat of Summer’s Fire begins to build remember to appropriately respond with either coming out and interacting to enliven your energy and spirit, your Heart, or remember to take time to come back into yourself, the stillness within your Heart. Finding what is ‘right’ for you. Enjoy yourself. Big Love Basti
