About Us
Cliff Andrews first started learning Shiatsu when he was working in Brighton and he loved it straight away. Shiatsu has so much to offer - it’s a pleasure to both give and receive! It’s a way of helping others which truly benefits our health and wellbeing on all levels.
On moving to Norwich, Cliff opened the ‘Shiatsu Rooms’ on King St in Norwich in 1983. He was honoured to be taken on as an apprentice to one of the world’s leading Shiatsu teachers, Pauline Sasaki, in the USA. On his return, in 1986, he co-founded the Shiatsu College with a group of fellow enthusiasts - classes were taught in London but Cliff also offered teaching in Norwich.
In 1989 he found the perfect city-centre location at 20A Lower Goat Lane and The Shiatsu Centre was born: the first clinic in the UK dedicated solely to Shiatsu. The following year his first local graduate, Dinah John, joined him in the clinic and helped him to run what had become the Norwich ‘Branch’ of the Shiatsu College.
The Shiatsu Centre clinic and the Shiatsu College Norwich have continued to grow and flourish together, with many College graduates practising in the Centre with Cliff and Dinah over the years. Cliff has become an internationally renowned, highly respected teacher and Dinah also taught internationally over some years.
In 2003 Cliff handed over the running of the Shiatsu College Norwich to Dinah so he could focus more on his online Post-Graduate project ‘New Energy Work’ (www.newenergywork.com) - offering a wide range of energy-based online courses, live Webinars, International Congresses and more!
Currently there’s a core team of five all practising at the Centre and collaborating to help run the Centre, the College and New Energy Work:
Cliff, Dinah, Cat Westwood, Shakura Meddings and Basti Deans.
Besides developing their Shiatsu work, the Norwich Team have learned many other new skills along the way - filming, video editing, online teaching and creating online courses… Since the Pandemic began they have weekly Zoom meetings and have supported Cliff’s initiative to produce a great flurry of online offerings - to support the wider global ‘energy work’ community as well as the local community and their many clients.
Although they take their work seriously they also enjoy themselves and have fun together - it’s such a delight being able to help others and kind of amazing how much support we can offer around a hands-on therapy even when we can’t put our hands on!!
